Choreographer John Scott and multimedia/interdisciplinary Artist Jason Akira Somma’s film ‘Proclamation’ places fragments of PH Pearse’s Irish Proclamation 1916 in the context of the current international migration crisis.  Set in a dreamscape of water as a place of birth, memory, dreams, death, and travel, the text fragments are danced, gasped, and spoken by six diverse individuals of different ethnicities. They express hope, a desire for freedom, and the wish for “cherishing all of the children”. Proclamation is a collaboration between Irish choreographer John Scott and filmmaker Jason Akira Somma. P R O C L A M A T I O N, supported by Culture Ireland, brings together new lens-based works by seven artists (and artists’ groups). The new works offer contemporary artistic responses to notions of place, language and identity to which the 1916 proclamation may seem to lay claim. The works will be presented at leading Irish and international venues, as installations, indoor and outdoor projections.
